Dal Maharani/For Blog Hop Wednesday

Time for Blog Hop Wednesday which I was eagerly waiting for. Today my partner is Vaishali @ Ribbons's to Pasta's. She is multi talented person. I loved all the dishes from her blog and I would like to try too.  For this month's Blog Hop I tried Dal-e-Maharani   for yesterday's dinner and it was a super hit.

Ingredients

Saboot Urad Dal                     One Cup
Turmeric Powder                     1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds                             2tsp
Poppy Seeds                            1 Tbsp
Whole Red Chillies                     4-5
Green Chilly                                 2
Garlic                                          5-6
Ginger juellines                           1 Tbsp
Pure Ghee                                  3 Tbsp
Curd                                           2 Tbsp
Tomato Chopped                        1
Garam Masala                             1 tsp
Paneer Cubes

Method
Pressure cook the dal with salt and a pinch of turmeric at least for 45 minutes on slow fire.
Make a paste of poppy seeds, whole red chilly, garlic cloves and one tspoon of cumin seeds. Set aside.
For the tempering heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, green chilly, ginger and ready paste. Saute it for a minute. Now add chopped tomato, turmeric powder, curd and garam masala. Cook for about two minutes or until ghee separates from tomatoes. Add Cooked dal and mix well. Cook for another 15 minutes on slow fire.
Add paneer cubes. Garnish with fresh cream, chopped coriander and green chilly and served.
Enjoy with tandoori parantha or nan.

Dal Amritsari





Ingredients
1/2    Bowl     Urad Chilka(split)
1/2    Bowl     Chana Dal(Bengal gram)
2       Tbsp      Desi Ghee/Clarified Butter
1       Tsp        Mustard Oil
1       Tsp        Methi Dana
1/2    Tsp        Green Chilly
1/2    Tsp        Garam Masala
1/2    Tsp        Asafoetida
 1      Tsp        Chopped Garlic
1/2    Bowl      Chopped Tomato
1/2    Bowl      Chopped Onion
1/2    Tsp         Turmeric Powder
1/2    Tsp         Red Chilly Powder
1/2    Tsp         Jeera(Cumin seeds)
1       Tbsp       Chopped Corainder




Method
Wash and soaked the dals for half an hour.
Pressure cook the lentils along with turmeric powder, salt and four cups of water. Keep aside.
To temper the dal heat mustard oil till the smoking point add methi dana (fenugreek seeds) and cook.
Add ghee, a pinch of hing and jeera.   Fry until they splutter.
Add in chopped onion and garlic. Cook until they turned into light brown.
Add chopped tomatoes and green chilly. Cook until done.
Add a pinch of turmeric powder, red chilly powder and garam masala.
Add boiled dal and mix very well. Cook for two minutes.
Garnish with fresh green coriander, green chilly and desi ghee and serve with tandoori roti.

Punjabi Dal Tadka


This Punjabi dish is really simple to prepare and great in taste. Serve this all time favorite to your family and guests and win the compliments.


Ingredients

Split Black Gram Dal Washed(Urad Dhuli)
    1 Cup
Onion (Large)
    1
Small Ginger Piece
    1
Flakes Garlic Chopped(optional)
    3-4
Green Chillies
    2-3
Ghee/Oil
    1 Tbsp
Cumin Seeds
    1 tsp
Turmeric Powder
    1/2 tsp
Red Chilli Powder
    1/2 tsp
Water
    2 Cups
Fresh Coriander Leaves
    1 tsp
Garam Masala
    1/4 tsp
Salt
    As Per Taste


Method

  • Wash and soak dal for 20 min.. Drain the water. Now add turmeric powder, salt and MW for 2 min..
  •  For tempering, heat ghee in a pan for about one min.. Add cumin seeds, as the began to splutter add onions and fry till transparent. Add ginger and crushed garlic and continue frying till onion is golden brown.
  •  Add chilli powder, chopped tomatoes, green chilli and stir. Now add dal and mix very well.
  •  Remove pan from heat. Add garam masala and coriander leaves.
  •  Serve hot with roti and naan.
